In the previous episode Falling Skies Season 1 Episode 2, the story that began six months after an alien invasion has destroyed 90% of the human race, the history teacher Tom Mason was second in command of the second Mass, a group of soldiers and civilians, including two of his sons, Hal and Matt. Then it goes from there. The human race is left to form a resistance against the foreign invader.

History teacher Tom Mason has been appointed deputy chief of the second Mass, but its real aim is to his three children, one of which has been captured by aliens for an unknown purpose. While scouting for supplies, Tom, Hal and his team find a band of marauders determined to get their hands on weapons of 2 MA. Leader of the band is an ex-convict named John Pope, who decides to use the hostages as a matter of negotiation.

Falling Skies Season 1 Next Sunday is an episode titled "Prisoners of War", which surrounds the second attempt of the Mass to rescue the teens was captured by aliens. After his encounter with the bandits in the last episode and devastating loss of the outlaws because of the surprise alien attack, some of them who survived eventually decides to help the second Mass.

The premiere of Falling Skies got a huge 5,910,000 viewers, becoming the first Sunday cable program in primetime.
